Authors born in April

As tomorrow is April 1st, I thought I would do a blog on authors born in April. Those born on the first of April (at least according to my online research) include novelist Edgar Wallace (1875; died 1932), the YA writer Tim Collins (1960), romance author Janette Rallison (1966) and Samuel R. Delany (1942). It's also worth giving a mention to American poet and musician Gil Scott-Heron, who was born in 1949 and died in 2011.

On only the second day of April in 1805, Hans Christian Anderson was born in Odense, Denmark. He wrote in a range of genres but is best remembered as the writer of multiple classic fairy tales such as the Ugly Duckling. Also born on 2nd April was Sue Townsend, in 1946. Townsend was the creator of the iconic 'secret diaries' of Adrian Mole, set in Leicester, England, which I loved reading as a child.

Further into April, some more famous names appear. Charlotte Bronte was born on the 21st April 1816 in the village of Thornton in Yorkshire, England. William Shakespeare was born on 23rd April, probably 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon and died in the same town on his birthday 51 or 52 years later! The writer of To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee, was born on 28th April 1926 in Monroeville, Alabama and died aged 89 in 2016, also in the same town she was born.

April has certainly been a great month for the literary world over the years. Who is your favourite author born in April? If you know of any I might not have heard of, please do recommend them to me.
